All Hair Color Home Care Recommendations and Tips
We strongly recommend using a professional sulfate-free shampoo designed for color treated hair in order to maintain and protect your fresh color between appointments. All of our products at Heads Up are sulfate-free, paraben free, cruelty free, color safe, and most are even gluten free and vegan!

We have a variety of cleansing and conditioning products and your stylist can recommend the best one for your specific hair needs. Some of the most popular ones are KMS Color Vitality, KMS Color Vitality for Blondes, and Amika Mirrorball.

Just like your skin, the sun isn’t great for your hair color. Try wearing a hat if you’ll be spending much time in the sun. We also have a UV protection sprays for your hair – we recommend Amika’s Color Vault Leave-In Conditioner.

Are you a swimmer? Try wetting down your hair with non-chlorinated water before you get in the pool – this helps prevent the chlorine and minerals from penetrating and/or building up on your hair. Chlorine is not your color’s friend. It also helps to wash your hair as soon as you can after swimming. We use and recommend Malibu Swimmers Wellness Shampoo

If you have chlorine buildup on your hair (it doesn’t feel “right” and may have changed color), we also have in-salon treatments to remove all that ‘gunk’ from your hair! Same with well-water or hard water buildup. Too much of any mineral buildup on your hair can negatively affect your hair -especially color. Speaking of that..... we have a great (safe for regular use) clarifying shampoo for product or oil build up.

If you plan on heat drying or styling your hair – a thermal protectant is extremely important! We have some dedicated thermal protectants and most all of the rest of our styling products have built in heat protection. We are currently obsessed with KMS Therma Shape Quick Blow Dry Spray for heat protection with a faster drying time. We have many options, so ask your stylist what is best for you!

If you need to disguise your regrowth between appointments, we offer a variety of colored sprays and powders by Style Edit that will temporarily cover your roots until your next shampoo.

If you had your hair lightened and toned, be aware that your toner may wear off before you are due for your next retouch. Did you know that you can make an appointment to have just your toner refreshed?
